Benin Republic and head coach Gernot Rohr have received a significant boost ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations round-of-16 clash against Egypt on Monday, following the return of midfielder Sessi D’Almeida.
Sessi D’Almeida sustained a grade-one hamstring injury during Benin’s 1–0 victory over Botswana in their second Group game of the ongoing AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
The midfielder was forced off in the 54th minute of that encounter and subsequently missed their final group match against Senegal, which ended in a 3–0 defeat.

Despite the heavy loss, Benin’s earlier win over Botswana proved decisive, as it was enough to secure qualification for the knockout stage as one of the four best third-placed teams.
D’Almeida’s availability is a major boost for Rohr, who will be hoping his side can overcome seven-time champions Egypt and reach the quarter-finals for only the second time in the nation’s history.
Egypt, meanwhile, head into the fixture with a fully fit squad and no suspension concerns. The Pharaohs will be aiming to see off Benin and book a quarter-final meeting against either defending champions Côte d’Ivoire or Burkina Faso.
Rohr is expected to field a strong lineup against Egypt, while also ensuring that the disappointing 3–0 defeat to Senegal is not repeated when the two sides meet on Monday.
