Nigeria will host the 2026 CAF Awards in Lagos on Monday, December 7, the Confederation of African Football Executive Committee has confirmed.

The CAF Executive Committee also approved Nigeria as the host nation for the CAF Ordinary General Assembly, scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 21, 2026.

The decisions were announced by CAF on Saturday following a virtual meeting chaired by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe on Friday.

Alongside the confirmation of the dates and locations for the CAF Awards and Ordinary General Assembly, the Executive Committee approved several other decisions concerning CAF competitions and the organisation’s future calendar.

The committee approved the CAF Competitions Calendar for the 2026–2030 period, providing Member Associations, clubs and other stakeholders with greater certainty in planning for CAF competitions and events.

The 2026 CAF Awards is expected to be held at the newly transformed Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, popularly known as the National Theatre, marking Nigeria’s return as host of the prestigious ceremony for the first time in almost a decade.

The ceremony will return to Nigeria for the first time since January 2017, when Abuja hosted the 2016 CAF Awards.

Algeria star Riyad Mahrez won the Men’s Player of the Year award on that occasion, while Super Falcons legend Asisat Oshoala claimed the Women’s Player of the Year prize.

It was a good night for Nigeria as Kelechi Iheanacho won the Most Promising Player of the Year award, while Alex Iwobi was named Youth Player of the Year.

The 2026 ceremony will also mark the first time since 2022 that the CAF Awards will be staged outside Morocco. The North African country hosted four consecutive editions between 2022 and 2025, with Rabat and Marrakech serving as host cities.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s hosting of the CAF Ordinary General Assembly will be another significant return for the country.

The General Assembly brings together presidents of CAF’s 54 Member Associations, representatives of the six zonal unions and senior football officials from across the continent.

Nigeria last hosted the CAF General Assembly in February 2009, when Lagos staged the congress at which elections to the CAF and FIFA Executive Committees were held.

With Lagos now set to host both the 2026 CAF Awards and the Ordinary General Assembly, Nigeria is poised to welcome key figures from African football for two major CAF events later this year.
