Barau have been handed the strongest chance of victory in Matchday 3 of the Nigeria Premier Football League, with the MIAS Supercomputer giving the Kano-based side an 89.2 per cent probability of defeating Ranchers Bees on Sunday.
The prediction is particularly striking because Ranchers Bees arrive at the Sani Abacha Stadium after a 4-0 demolition of Abia Warriors, the biggest victory recorded so far this season.
MIAS nevertheless gives Ranchers only a 2.0 per cent chance of winning, with the draw rated at 8.8 per cent. The model projects 2.80 expected goals for Barau compared with just 0.26 for the visitors.
Barau are one of seven home teams favoured by the supercomputer in the matches that will actually take place this weekend.

Three of the original 10 Matchday 3 fixtures have been postponed because of continental commitments involving Rangers International, Rivers United and Shooting Stars. The official NPFL schedule lists Rangers v Nasarawa United, Rivers United v Warri Wolves and Shooting Stars v Kano Pillars as postponed.
How did the supercomputer perform last week?
MIAS improved its running record in Matchday 2, correctly predicting the winner in four of the six matches played.
The model got Nasarawa United, Plateau United, Kano Pillars and Ranchers Bees right, while its calls for Inter Lagos and Kun Khalifat failed to land.
More significantly, it recorded its first two exact-score successes of the season.
MIAS had Nasarawa United 1-0 Bendel Insurance as its leading scoreline, and Nasarawa won 1-0. It also made Plateau United 1-0 Kwara United its most probable result, which was exactly how the game finished. The official results also show Kano Pillars beating Niger Tornadoes 3-2, Ranchers Bees thrashing Abia Warriors 4-0, Doma United winning 1-0 at Inter Lagos and Kun Khalifat drawing 0-0 with Barau.
That leaves the supercomputer with a running record of 11 correct outcomes from 16 completed matches, an accuracy rate of 68.8 per cent, with two exact scores.
Doma United v Enyimba
League leaders Doma United have been backed to continue their perfect start when they host Enyimba at the Pantami Stadium on Saturday.
MIAS gives Doma a 45.3 per cent chance of victory, compared with 34.1 per cent for a draw and 20.6 per cent for an Enyimba win.
The model expects another low-scoring contest, projecting 1.01 expected goals for Doma and 0.58 for Enyimba.
That prediction comes despite Enyimba having the stronger attacking rating, 1.19 compared with Doma’s 0.71. Doma, however, have the better defensive figure at 0.80.
Doma have won both of their opening fixtures and sit top with six points, while Enyimba’s only league appearance so far ended in a 2-1 defeat at Niger Tornadoes.
There is also recent history in Doma’s favour. They collected four points from their two meetings with Enyimba during the 2023/24 season.

Abia Warriors v Ikorodu City
This is the closest Matchday 3 fixture according to the model.
Abia Warriors have a 42.2 per cent chance of winning, but Ikorodu City are not far behind on 31.2 per cent. A draw is rated at 26.6 per cent.
The expected-goals numbers are equally competitive, with Abia projected at 1.38 and Ikorodu at 1.15.
Interestingly, Ikorodu have by far the stronger attacking rating at 1.39 compared with Abia’s 0.65, but home advantage appears to swing the overall prediction towards the Umuahia club.
Abia are still searching for their first victory after collecting one point from two games and were beaten 4-0 by Ranchers Bees on Monday. Ikorodu opened their campaign with a 3-1 win over Ranchers.

Barau v Ranchers Bees
No team receives stronger backing this weekend than Barau.
The supercomputer gives them an 89.2 per cent probability of victory, with an 8.8 per cent chance of a draw and only 2.0 per cent for a Ranchers Bees win.
MIAS projects a huge expected-goals advantage of 2.80 to 0.26.
The defensive ratings help explain that gulf. Barau are rated at 0.70 defensively, compared with Ranchers’ 1.64, where the lower figure represents the stronger defence.
Yet Ranchers should arrive with significantly more confidence than the model might suggest. Mohammed Rabiu Zulkifilu scored a hat-trick as they dismantled Abia Warriors 4-0 in their last outing.
Barau have four points from their opening two matches after beating Nasarawa United and drawing away to Kun Khalifat.

Bendel Insurance v Kun Khalifat
Bendel Insurance are favourites in Benin, although MIAS expects a much tighter contest.
Insurance have a 45.8 per cent chance of victory, with a draw at 31.8 per cent and Kun Khalifat given 22.4 per cent.
The expected-goals projection stands at 1.11 for Bendel and 0.68 for Kun Khalifat.
Kun Khalifat actually carry the stronger attacking rating, 1.24 compared with Bendel’s 0.92, while the visitors also have the better defensive figure at 0.78.
They have, however, drawn both of their opening games, while Bendel have three points from two matches.

Kwara United v Katsina United
MIAS gives Kwara United a strong chance of recording their first victory of the season.
The Harmony Boys have a 69.3 per cent probability of beating Katsina United, with the draw rated at 20.0 per cent and an away victory at only 10.7 per cent.
Kwara are projected to produce 1.96 expected goals compared with Katsina’s 0.61.
The hosts have one point from two matches following a 2-2 draw with Kano Pillars and a 1-0 defeat at Plateau United.
Katsina, meanwhile, have played only once, earning a 1-1 draw away to champions Rangers. Kwara have won three of the last five meetings between the sides and completed a league double over Katsina last season.

Niger Tornadoes v Plateau United
Niger Tornadoes are given a 56.6 per cent chance of victory against Plateau United in Minna.
A draw carries a relatively significant 31.9 per cent probability, while Plateau have only an 11.5 per cent chance of winning.
MIAS forecasts a low-scoring game, with expected goals of 1.17 for Tornadoes and 0.36 for Plateau.
Both clubs have identical records after two matches, with one win and one defeat.
Recent history also favours the hosts. Plateau United have managed only one victory in their recent trips to face Tornadoes.

Inter Lagos v Sporting Lagos
The first top-flight meeting between Inter Lagos and Sporting Lagos is one of the standout fixtures of the weekend, but MIAS does not expect it to be particularly close.
Inter have been given a 67.4 per cent chance of winning the Lagos derby, compared with 21.7 per cent for a draw and only 10.9 per cent for Sporting.
Expected goals favour Inter 1.80 to 0.56.
The model also gives Inter the stronger defensive rating, although both clubs are still searching for their first points of the season.
Inter have lost to Shooting Stars and Doma United, while Sporting’s only league game so far ended in a 2-0 defeat at Doma.
Sunday’s match at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena is the first top-flight meeting between the two Lagos clubs and kicks off at 4pm Nigerian time.

Three predictions placed on hold
MIAS had already generated forecasts for the three matches subsequently removed from the weekend programme.
Rivers United received an 88.6 per cent chance of defeating Warri Wolves, Rangers International were rated at 80.6 per cent against Nasarawa United, while Shooting Stars had a 69.5 per cent probability of beating Kano Pillars.
Those predictions cannot yet form part of the model’s accuracy record because the matches have been postponed due to the clubs’ CAF commitments.
The latest official fixture list has Rivers United v Warri Wolves scheduled for September 16, Rangers v Nasarawa United for September 17 and Shooting Stars v Kano Pillars for October 7.
Rivers United’s title probability rises to 55.5%
Rivers United remain the overwhelming favourites in MIAS’s full-season simulation despite not playing in Matchday 2.
After 100,000 simulations of the 2026/27 season, Rivers have a 55.5 per cent probability of winning the NPFL title, up from 51.2 per cent in the previous update and 37.6 per cent before the season.
Their expected points total has climbed to 69.6, with an 83.1 per cent probability of finishing in the top three.
Enyimba are a distant second in the title race at 9.1 per cent, narrowly ahead of champions Rangers on 9.0 per cent.
Ikorodu City sit at 6.8 per cent, while Kano Pillars’ unbeaten start has moved them to 6.6 per cent.
Perhaps the most interesting projection concerns current leaders Doma United.
Despite winning their first two matches and sitting on six points, the model gives Doma only a 0.2 per cent chance of winning the title and 1.9 per cent probability of finishing in the top three.
Their strong start has, however, dramatically improved their survival outlook. Doma’s relegation probability has fallen from 49.5 per cent after Matchday 1 to 28.9 per cent.
At the other end, Ranchers Bees remain MIAS’s overwhelming relegation favourites despite Monday’s 4-0 victory. Their relegation probability stands at 93.5 per cent, although that is down from 96.8 per cent in the previous simulation.
Abia Warriors have the next-highest relegation probability at 34.1 per cent, followed by Warri Wolves at 32.7 per cent and Sporting Lagos at 29.8 per cent.
The MIAS projection is generated from 100,000 complete simulations of the 380-match NPFL season, representing 38 million simulated matches. As with the individual match probabilities, the figures indicate the model’s assessment of possible outcomes rather than guaranteed results.
