Victor Osimhen continued his remarkable start to the season as Galatasaray defeated İstanbul Başakşehir 3-2 in a dramatic Turkish Süper Lig clash on Friday. The Nigerian striker opened the scoring at Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium before Galatasaray secured victory with a late Gabriel Sara goal.
Osimhen entered the fixture in excellent scoring form. He had already scored five goals and provided three assists in his first three appearances of the campaign. His latest effort took his league tally to six goals and extended his strong run in front of goal.
Galatasaray made the early breakthrough through their Nigerian forward. Osimhen struck in the 16th minute.
The striker collected the ball before unleashing a powerful. His shot hit the crossbar and bounced down over the goal line before returning into play.
The referee initially allowed the game to continue. However, a VAR review confirmed that the ball had crossed the line. The officials then awarded Galatasaray the opening goal.
The goal continued Osimhen’s impressive scoring record against Başakşehir. It also gave Galatasaray an early advantage in a match that would become increasingly difficult for the visitors.
Osimhen, however, did not finish the game. The forward appeared to suffer discomfort and left the pitch in the 33rd minute, with Barış Alper Yılmaz taking his place.
Galatasaray carried their one-goal advantage into half-time. Başakşehir then increased the pressure after the restart and eventually found their equaliser.
Eldor Shomurodov converted a penalty in the 66th minute to make it 1-1. The home side had suddenly levelled the contest and put Galatasaray under renewed pressure.
Galatasaray responded almost immediately. Lucas Torreira restored the visitors’ advantage in the 71st minute, with Ismail Jakobs providing the assist.
The lead lasted only five minutes. Davinson Sánchez then turned the ball into his own net in the 76th minute, allowing Başakşehir to draw level again.
The match appeared to be heading towards a draw. However, Galatasaray found another decisive moment in the closing stages.
Başakşehir were reduced to 10 players when Umut Bozok received a red card in the 79th minute. Galatasaray pushed forward as they searched for the winning goal.
Their pressure finally paid off in the 90th minute. Gabriel Sara found the net to give Galatasaray a 3-2 lead. The Brazilian midfielder’s late strike proved decisive as the visitors held on for another important league victory.
The result gives Galatasaray another five-goal thriller after their previous league match against Göztepe also ended 3-2.
Osimhen’s latest goal therefore adds another highlight to his excellent opening stretch with Galatasaray. Despite leaving the pitch early, his first-half contribution helped set the champions on their way to another victory.
The focus will now turn to Galatasaray’s next fixtures and Osimhen’s fitness following his early substitution.
