Christantus Uche has reacted to suffering a serious injury to his right knee that will rule him out for the entire 2026/27 season, Bold Sports reports.

The 23-year-old suffered the setback during Getafe’s pre-season friendly against Monaco on Thursday after a challenge from defender Christian Mawissa. Uche was forced to leave the pitch on a stretcher, while Mawissa was shown a straight red card for the challenge.

Initial medical examinations offered some hope, with the injury initially suspected to be a severe knee contusion. However, further tests raised greater concerns, with an MRI scan confirming multiple tears in Uche’s right knee.

The damage affected both the ligaments and meniscus, leaving the Nigerian midfielder facing surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process.

Following confirmation of the severity of the injury, Uche took to Instagram to share an emotional message, admitting that the setback represents one of the most difficult moments of his career.

“Today is one of the hardest days of my career,” the midfielder wrote.

“After the latest medical tests, it has been confirmed that the injury to my knee is serious and will have a long recovery process.”

“Not gonna lie: accepting that I’ll be off the playground for a while is hard. Football is my passion, my job and what makes me the happiest, and now it’s time to face a moment I had never imagined.”

“But the difficulties are also part of the journey. I will face this stage with strength, patience and determination, working every day to get back to doing what I love most, which is playing football.”

“I want to sincerely thank my family, my colleagues, the technical team, the medical services and the whole family of Getafe CF for being by my side. And especially to all the fans who have sent me messages of support.”

This is just a chapter, not the end of the story. I will be right back. Thank you for being with me.”
