Christantus Uche will miss the entire 2026/27 season after suffering a serious right knee injury. The Getafe midfielder sustained the setback against AS Monaco in a pre-season friendly on Thursday.
Uche had just returned to Getafe after a difficult loan spell at Crystal Palace. He made 23 appearances across competitions, scoring twice and providing one assist.
The Nigerian suffered the injury after a challenge from Monaco defender Christian Mawissa. The tackle forced Uche from the pitch on a stretcher. Mawissa received a straight red card for the challenge.
Initial checks offered some hope. Medical staff first suspected a severe knee contusion. However, further examinations raised serious concerns.
An MRI scan later confirmed multiple tears in Uche’s right knee. The damage affects both the ligaments and meniscus. As a result, the midfielder now faces surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period.
Getafe now face the difficult task of replacing a player they had expected to use this season. Uche returned to the Spanish club after Crystal Palace did not trigger the conditions for a permanent transfer.

The injury is especially painful because Uche returned to Getafe with a chance to rebuild his career.
The Nigerian had impressed during his previous spell in Spain. Getafe recorded 41 appearances and five goals for him before his move to Crystal Palace.
His return therefore offered another opportunity to establish himself at the club. Instead, the knee injury has ended his season before competitive action begins.
The setback also comes at an important time for Nigeria. Uche had emerged as part of the Super Eagles setup and now faces a long period away from football.
For Getafe, his absence removes another option from José Bordalás’ squad. The club must now prepare for the new season without a player they had hoped to see contribute.
Uche is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days. His immediate focus will then shift towards rehabilitation.
The 2026/27 campaign is already over for the Nigerian. His next challenge will be returning fully fit and rebuilding his career once again.
