Alex Iwobi found the net as Fulham fought back to beat Portuguese club Farense 2-1 in their final preseason friendly before the start of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.
The Super Eagles midfielder converted from the penalty spot in the second half before Rodrigo Muniz struck a late winner, giving Marco Silva’s side a morale-boosting victory at the end of their training camp in Portugal.
The Nigeria international heads into the new season after another solid campaign in England. Last season, Iwobi scored four goals and registered three assists in 29 Premier League appearances. He remained one of Fulham’s most reliable performers despite the club narrowly missing out on a place in European competition, making his latest preseason contribution another encouraging sign.
Farense made the brighter start and took the lead in the 10th minute, forcing Fulham to chase the game for the remainder of the first half.
The Premier League side improved after the interval and earned a penalty when Emile Smith Rowe was brought down inside the box.
Iwobi accepted the responsibility from 12 yards and calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way in the 52nd minute, bringing Fulham level and shifting the momentum firmly in their favour.
The equaliser lifted Marco Silva’s team as they continued pressing for a winning goal against the Portuguese outfit.
Fulham’s persistence paid off just before full-time. Josh King won another penalty after being fouled inside the area, and Rodrigo Muniz made no mistake by firing home in the 89th minute to complete the comeback.
The victory wrapped up Fulham’s preseason preparations on a positive note and provided added confidence ahead of the new Premier League season.
Iwobi will now aim to carry his encouraging preseason form into the competitive campaign as Fulham look to improve on last season’s finish and strengthen their push for a European place.
