Chidozie Awaziem has completed a move to Turkish Super Lig side Konyaspor from Nantes, with the Super Eagles defender signing a two-year contract.
Konyaspor confirmed the transfer in a statement released on their official website on Wednesday, announcing that the signing ceremony was held at the Konyaspor Museum inside the club’s stadium, with Football Branch Manager Ali Camgöz in attendance.
The move marks Awaziem’s return to Turkish football, having previously featured for Rizespor and Alanyaspor during earlier spells in his career.
The 29-year-old arrives after spending the 2025/26 season with Nantes, where he made 27 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring once and providing two assists during his second stint with the French club.

Awaziem’s professional journey has seen him feature across several European leagues since joining Portuguese giants Porto in 2014. After progressing through the club’s youth system, he made his senior debut in January 2016 before embarking on a series of loan moves.
His first spell at Nantes came during the 2017/18 season, where he made 23 appearances before joining Turkish side Rizespor on loan in January 2019. The defender later had loan spells with Spanish outfit Leganés and Portuguese club Boavista.
Boavista signed him permanently in 2021, but he continued to gain experience through temporary moves to Alanyaspor in Turkey and Croatian side Hajduk Split. He returned to Boavista for the 2023/24 season, making 27 appearances before sealing a permanent switch to Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati.
His time at Cincinnati was brief, as he moved to Colorado Rapids months later, before returning to Nantes, where he spent the previous campaign.
Awaziem now heads back to Turkey, adding further experience to Konyaspor’s defensive options ahead of the new Super Lig season.
The defender becomes the latest Nigerian player to secure a move to Turkey during the summer transfer window. Kelechi Iheanacho recently joined Bursaspor as a free agent, while Gift Orban completed a loan move from Hoffenheim to Amed Sportif.
They join fellow Nigerians already plying their trade in the Turkish top flight, including Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu, Chibuike Nwaiwu and Wilfred Ndidi.
