Ajax are on the verge of completing the signing of Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare from Wolves after reaching an agreement with the Championship club on a season-long loan deal that includes an option to buy for €22 million.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Dutch giants identified Arokodare as one of their priority attacking targets and are now ironing out the remaining details before the transfer is officially completed.
The Super Eagles forward has attracted interest from several clubs during the summer transfer window. Trabzonspor were one of the teams that tried to get a deal done. The Turkish side submitted an offer for the 25-year-old, but the striker was not convinced by the proposed move.
Italian clubs also showed strong interest in securing Arokodare’s signature. Fiorentina appeared to be leading the race at one stage, but negotiations with Wolves failed to produce an agreement. Genoa later entered the picture, though the Serie A outfit were equally unable to finalise a deal.

Ajax have now emerged as the frontrunners after quickly striking an agreement with Wolves. Fabrizio added that the Eredivisie side will pay a loan fee and cover the striker’s full wages throughout the loan spell. The €22 million purchase clause included in the deal remains optional rather than an obligation.
The agreement also contains performance-related incentives for Wolves as the English club will earn additional bonuses if Ajax qualify for European competitions. The Dutch side are currently well placed to progress in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers after recording an emphatic 4-1 away victory over Vojvodina in the first leg of their second qualifying round tie.
Arokodare joined Wolves at the start of the 2025/26 campaign but endured a difficult debut season in England. He scored six goals and provided two assists in 38 appearances as the club suffered relegation from the Premier League to the Championship.
His situation reportedly deteriorated further during pre-season. According to sports journalist Nathan Judah, the Nigerian was involved in a training-ground disagreement with head coach Cesar Peixoto, an incident that reportedly resulted in the training session being called off.
With a move to Ajax now close to completion, Arokodare will be hoping a fresh start in the Netherlands provides the platform to rediscover the form that established him as one of Nigeria’s most highly rated attacking talents.
