The Super Falcons continued their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania’s Twiga Stars in a behind-closed-doors international friendly in Casablanca on Thursday.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and substitute Esther Okoronkwo were on target as Nigeria secured the win, with the latter netting a late winner after Tanzania had cancelled out the Super Falcons’ first-half lead.
Ajibade gave Justin Madugu’s side the perfect start, opening the scoring in the 14th minute with Rinsola Babajide providing the assist to put the ten-time African champions ahead.
Unfortunately, the Super Falcons were forced into an early change soon after, with defender Rofiat Imuran leaving the pitch through injury and Glory Ogbonna coming on as her replacement.

However, Esther Okoronkwo, introduced from the bench, made an immediate impact by scoring late in the game to restore Nigeria’s lead and seal a 2-1 victory. This time, Rasheedat Ajibade turned provider, capping off an impressive performance.
The win provides a timely confidence boost for Madugu’s side ahead of their opening Group C fixture against Malawi on Tuesday, July 28, as the Super Falcons begin their quest for a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.
