The Super Falcons will take on Tanzania in a friendly match on Thursday as they round off preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which kicks off on Sunday in Morocco.

According to reports from the team’s camp in Casablanca, the match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., with an official announcement expected in the coming hours.

The friendly comes after Nigeria’s previously planned warm-up fixture against Ghana’s Black Queens, initially slated for last Saturday, failed to hold due to unforeseen circumstances.

Thursday’s encounter will provide head coach Justin Madugu with a final opportunity to assess his squad before the Super Falcons begin their quest for an 11th continental title.

Nigeria are drawn in Group C and will open their title defence against Malawi on Tuesday, July 28. The 10-time African champions will then face Zambia on Saturday before concluding their group-stage campaign against Egypt the following Wednesday.

Tanzania, meanwhile, are in Group B and will begin their campaign against South Africa on Monday. The Twiga Stars will face Burkina Faso on Friday before taking on Ivory Coast in their final group fixture next Tuesday.

The two sides head into the tournament with contrasting WAFCON records. Nigeria claimed a record-extending 10th continental crown in Morocco last year, while Tanzania exited at the group stage after defeats to Mali and Ghana, as well as a draw against South Africa.

Now preparing for their third WAFCON appearance, the Twiga Stars will be hoping to improve on their previous outings and make a deeper run in the competition.

Preparations have continued steadily in the Super Falcons’ camp, with 23 players reported to have arrived as of Wednesday morning. The team is scheduled to hold a training session in Mohammedia at 5 p.m. as they fine-tune plans ahead of the tournament opener.
