Victor Boniface says Chelsea supporters will “enjoy better football” following the club’s appointment of former Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso as their new manager.

The Nigerian International worked with Alonso at Leverkusen for two seasons. He was part of the squad that made history, winning the Bundesliga title unbeaten in the 2023/24 campaign.

Boniface played a key role during Alonso’s time at Leverkusen. In the two seasons they worked together, the Super Eagles striker scored 32 goals and provided 10 assists in 61 games.

After a successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso left to manage Real Madrid. The Spaniard oversaw 34 matches at the club, recording 24 wins before leaving in January 2026.

However, the World Cup winner is now back in the dugout. On Sunday, Chelsea officially appointed Alonso as their new manager on a four-year contract. The Spaniard will begin his reign at Stamford Bridge on July 1, 2026.

Reacting to the news, Boniface commented on an excited Chelsea fan’s Instagram post, acknowledging that the new manager will bring a more exciting style of play for the club’s supporters to enjoy.

“You go enjoy better football no worry. He too sabi,” Boniface wrote in Pidgin English.

While he remains a Leverkusen player, Victor Boniface spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Werder Bremen. His campaign was disrupted by a severe knee injury that required surgery in January 2026.

It forced him to miss the second half of the season, with his last competitive match coming against Hamburger in December 2025.
