Carlos Corberán has defended Umar Sadiq’s personality ahead of La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano on Thursday. The Valencia manager insisted he would not change the Nigerian striker’s sense of humour or character despite growing attention around his recent performances.
The comments came during Wednesday’s pre-match press conference before the Matchday 36 fixture at Mestalla Stadium. Corberán praised the atmosphere inside the dressing room and highlighted the importance of diversity within the squad.
Sadiq has become one of Valencia’s key attacking players in recent weeks. The Super Eagles striker has scored three goals in his last four La Liga matches.
His recent displays have strengthened Valencia’s attack during a crucial stage of the campaign. The forward now hopes to earn selection for Nigeria’s upcoming friendlies against Poland national football team and Portugal national football team.
Speaking about the striker, Corberán explained why he values individuality inside the squad.

“No two footballers are the same ever in a dressing room, there are never two people who are the same. We all come from different families, different cultures, different countries, and we have to enrich ourselves and get the best out of each one.”
The Valencia coach also stressed that every player must continue improving.
“But I’m not talking about Sadiq, I’m talking about all of us. Learn from the good things that we all have, improve in the things that are not our greatest virtues and that’s it.”
Corberán then delivered a strong endorsement of the Nigerian forward.
“Sadiq is an exceptional boy, a player in whom a sense of humor is part of his personality. I don’t want to change it, nor am I going to change it, nor do I intend to change it.”
“He’s here at the club because we really liked what he gave us last year. He offers the team very good options, so we’re happy with that,” Corberán added.
Umar Sadiq will aim to impress again against Rayo Vallecano as Carlos Corberán continues praising the striker’s personality, attitude, and growing influence during Valencia’s strong finish to the La Liga season.
