Umar Sadiq was involved for Valencia CF, but his presence could not prevent a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in their latest La Liga encounter at the Mestalla Stadium. The fixture had built anticipation around a potential Nigerian duel, yet Ademola Lookman did not feature for the visitors.

‎Sadiq has remained part of Valencia’s attacking rotation in recent weeks. He featured and scored in his last two league matches, against Girona FC and RCD Mallorca. His involvement remains important as the club fights to maintain distance from the relegation zone. Sadiq Umar played full 90 minutes but failed to score.

‎The match opened at a cautious tempo. Both sides struggled to create early momentum. However, Atletico Madrid sparked into life midway through the first half. A clever back-heel from Nahuel Molina released Rodrigo Mendoza, but a timely defensive block denied a clear scoring chance.

After the restart, the rhythm remained flat. Atletico again threatened around the hour mark. Belaid found space inside the box but failed to hit the target despite another precise delivery from Molina.

‎With the game drifting toward a stalemate, Atletico found the breakthrough in the 74th minute. Debutant Iker Luque produced a composed finish from distance to silence the home crowd.

‎Valencia pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Yet their efforts left gaps at the back. Atletico punished them late on when another debutant, Miguel Cubo, finished clinically after a precise assist from Antoine Griezmann.

‎The result leaves Valencia in 12th place, only five points above the relegation zone with four matches remaining. Pressure continues to build as they prepare for a difficult trip to Athletic Bilbao.

‎Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, strengthen their hold on fourth position. Their focus now shifts to a crucial UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Arsenal.
