Ademola Lookman will be targeting his first piece of silverware with Atlético Madrid when they take on Real Sociedad in Saturday’s Copa del Rey Final.
The Super Eagles winger has enjoyed an impressive start to life in Spain following his January move, registering six goals and four assists in 17 appearances. Just three months after departing Atalanta, he now stands on the brink of adding another trophy to his growing résumé.
Lookman has built a reputation for delivering in decisive moments. In 2024, the 28-year-old produced a historic display, scoring a hat-trick to fire Atalanta to their first-ever European title in the UEFA Europa League.
The winger scored the crucial goal on Tuesday as Atlético secured a place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2017, knocking out Barcelona in the process.

Lookman was also influential in the Copa del Rey semi-final tie against Barcelona. In the first leg, he scored and provided an assist in a commanding 4-0 victory, a result that ultimately proved decisive as Atlético advanced 4-3 on aggregate.
Given his track record on the big stage, it would be no surprise to see Lookman feature prominently against Real Sociedad. He will be aiming to deliver once again as Atlético chase their first trophy in five years.
The Madrid side head into the final with a strong recent record against their opponents. The two teams have already met twice this year, playing out a 1-1 draw in January before Diego Simeone’s side claimed a 3-2 win in March.

Atlético are also unbeaten in their last 10 meetings with Real Sociedad, with their most recent defeat in the fixture dating back to 2022.
With silverware at stake, Lookman and Atlético will be determined to secure victory once again and bring an end to the club’s recent trophy drought.
