Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman will be looking to end a five-game run without scoring when Atletico Madrid face off against Getafe in their La Liga clash at Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Saturday.

The Nigerian International made a brilliant start to life in Spain, recording seven goal contributions in his first seven appearances for Diego Simeone’s side. However, the 28-year-old has gone five consecutive matches without finding the back of the net despite producing some decent performances.

While his numbers have improved at Atletico Madrid, as compared to the first half of the season with Atalanta, Lookman will be eager to have more impact in the La Liga where he has only scored one goal in five games. In contrast, he has been far more productive in cup competitions, recording six goal contributions in six games.

Atletico Madrid will be hoping to continue a fine run of form that has seen them lose only once in their last seven games. That loss came at the hands of Barcelona, a 3-0 defeat in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal after Simeone’s side had won 4-0 in the first leg, hence it didn’t mean much.

They’ll also be looking to extend their remarkable home form where they have secured 12 victories in 14 league games this campaign. They’ve only lost once at home this season, a 1-0 defeat to Real Betis. Only Barcelona who have won 13 out of 13 games, have a better record at home in the La Liga.

Meanwhile, Getafe will be aiming to get a result against Atletico Madrid to improve their chances of finishing in the European qualification spots. The visitors currently sit ninth on the table with 35 points, five points behind Celta Vigo who are sixth on the table

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game, Simeone acknowledged the contest will be difficult: “A very tough match, a tricky match, a match where we need to know the opponent we’re up against.”

“They’re coming off the back of a very good run, having won important matches deservedly through their play. And we’ll have to take the game where we think we can hurt them.”
