Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga has reportedly been sentenced to six months in prison by the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court after being found guilty of committing a sexual act without consent, according to Norwegian outlet VG Sporten.
Molde had earlier disclosed in December that the case was reported to the authorities at the end of April 2025, adding that both the player and the club cooperated fully with the police throughout the investigation.
The verdict was however reportedly announced on Tuesday afternoon, and it was unfavorable for the young midfielder. In addition to the six-month sentence, the 19-year-old has been ordered to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner (₦1,448,933) in legal costs.

Shortly after the ruling, his club Molde FK confirmed the development in a press release on Instagram while noting that the case is not yet legally final.
“The player has, through his defense attorney, notified an appeal of the verdict. The case is therefore not legally binding, and it will be treated further in the Judicial system,” the club said in its statement.
The club acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and the impact on those involved.
“This is a very demanding case for everyone involved. Molde Football Club as an employer has a responsibility to protect our employees in a defensive manner, while we respect the seriousness of the matter and the burdens this incur on all parties concerned.”
Because of the ongoing legal proceedings, Molde confirmed that Daga will remain unavailable for selection.
“Based on the situation and the ongoing legal process, the club has decided that the player will not be part of the match squad until further notice.”

The club added that it would not comment further on the matter while the legal process continues: “Regarding the further legal process and all parties involved, Molde FK is not commenting on the matter further at this moment.”
Daniel Daga joined Molde in January 2025 and has gone on to make appearances in both the Eliteserien and the UEFA Conference League. At international level, he represented Nigeria U-20 at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where the Flying Eagles were knocked out in the round of 16 by Argentina.
