Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has applauded Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka for the immediate influence he has brought to the club following his winter arrival.
The Super Eagles international joined the Championship leaders from Brentford on transfer deadline day in February and has quickly become a useful addition to the squad.
Since arriving, Onyeka has featured in all four of Coventry City’s matches, with the Sky Blues maintaining a strong run of results during that period.
Lampard explained that Onyeka’s experience at the top level was a major factor behind the decision to bring him to the club.
According to the former Chelsea manager, Coventry’s squad does not have many players who have played regularly in the Premier League, making Onyeka’s background particularly valuable.

“When we recruited him the playing profile was different as we are quite light on Premier League experience,” Lampard told BBC CWR.
He added that several Championship sides have players with top-flight exposure, something Coventry lack in comparison. Because of that, Onyeka’s understanding of high-level football has proven useful.
Lampard further highlighted the midfielder’s impact within the dressing room as well as on the pitch.
“So there’s an experience about it, a know-how in his game but he’s been a big impact on and off the pitch for us,” the Coventry boss said.
The manager also praised Onyeka’s attitude and professionalism since arriving at the club, noting that his presence has contributed to Coventry’s improved form in recent weeks.

“His professionalism is really good and he’s clearly come in and helped our upturn,” Lampard added.
Meanwhile, the Coventry boss provided a brief update on Onyeka’s fitness after the midfielder picked up a knock during the team’s 2-1 victory over Stoke City last weekend.
Lampard revealed that the 28-year-old had not trained much during the week but could still be available for the club’s upcoming Championship clash against Bristol City.
“He hasn’t trained much but he’ll train today and we’ll see how he is,” Lampard said.
Coventry City will now prepare for the trip to Ashton Gate on Saturday as they continue their push for promotion to the Premier League.
