It was a memorable outing for Nigeria at the LSU Twilight in Baton Rouge as Rosemary Chukwuma and Ella Onojuvwevwo delivered commanding performances to win their respective events.

Chukwuma opened her season in style, storming to victory in the women’s 60m with a time of 7.17 seconds. The Nigerian speedster edged out American sprinter Alia Armstrong, who finished second in 7.19s.

Turkish and former Nigerian sprinter and Louisiana State University alumni Fabour Ofili claimed third place in 7.23s.

Not to be outdone, Ella Onojuvwevwo dominated the women’s 500m, powering to a clear victory in 1:11.66.

She finished almost six seconds ahead of the field, with Akaree Roberts placing second in 1:17.15, underscoring the Nigerian’s control and strength over the distance.

The impressive performances highlight Nigeria’s growing depth in women’s sprinting, with both athletes setting the tone early in the season with statement wins on American soil.

Akaree Roberts settled for second place in 1:17.15, unable to match the Nigerian’s blistering pace as Onojuvwevwo pulled away decisively down the stretch.

The victory adds another strong outing to Onojuvwevwo’s growing résumé and further highlights her consistency on the track as she continues to build momentum this season.
