Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu scored for the fifth consecutive match, while defender Chibuike Nwaiwu provided an assist, but their efforts proved insufficient as Trabzonspor suffered a 3–2 defeat to Fenerbahçe in their Super Lig encounter on Saturday.
Both sides came into the game desperate for victory in order to close the gap on Galatasaray. But it was the visitors who got the job done in thrilling fashion, taking them three points behind the league leaders.
Trabzonspor got an early lead just six minutes into the game as Nwaiwu delivered a superb long pass that split the visitors’ defence and released Ernest Muçi through on goal. The midfielder made no mistake, lobbing the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
However, Fenerbahçe got back into the game in no time. In the 15th minute, Anderson Talisca netted his 13th league goal of the season to level the score line, and in the 34th minute, Kerem Akturkoglu completed the comeback, making it 2-1.
Few minutes before halftime, Onuachu found the equaliser with a brilliant header, rising above the defense to beat Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Ederson and level the score 2-2, bringing an enthralling first half to a dramatic close.

Fenerbahçe got their winning goal three minutes into the second half as Marco Asensio finished off a brilliant team move with a clinical finish, securing all three points for the visitors despite Trabzonspor’s late attempts to draw level.
The result means that Fenerbahçe remain second on the Super Lig standings with 52 points, three behind Galatasaray after 22 matches. Meanwhile, Trabzonspor’s title dreams continue to fade away as they are now 10 points behind the league leaders.
