Ikorodu City moved up to third place on the Nigeria Premier Football League table on Thursday after edging Shooting Stars 1-0 in their matchday 23 clash at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, courtesy of an early strike from Joseph Arumala.
Both sides went into the encounter level on 35 points after 22 matches, sitting fifth and sixth respectively, knowing that victory would lift them into third place.
Ikorodu City took the lead as early as the second minute when Arumala fired home from close range after the Shooting Stars goalkeeper parried Tosin Oyedoku’s long-range effort. The goal proved decisive, securing the Oga Boys their 10th win of the season.

The hosts created several chances in both halves and could have extended their advantage but lacked composure in front of goal. Shooting Stars, on their part, struggled to break down Ikorodu City’s defence, with their few efforts comfortably dealt with at the back.
Elsewhere in the matchday 23 fixtures on Thursday, Warri Wolves defeated defending champions Remo Stars 1-0 in Ozoro, deepening the struggles of the relegation-threatened side.
Kun Khalifat also edged Kwara United 1-0, while the encounters between Bendel Insurance and Barau FC, and Bayelsa United against Niger Tornadoes, ended goalless.
