The 2025 WakaPass Christmas Football Party, one of Lagos State’s most anticipated grassroots football tournaments, came to a thrilling conclusion after two action-packed days of football, talent discovery, and festive celebration.
The tournament featured a total of 72 teams, comprising 64 male teams in the U-15 category and eight female teams, drawing young talents from across Lagos State and reinforcing its status as one of the most competitive and well-attended youth football events in the region.
The competition officially kicked off on Friday, December 26, 2025, and matches were played simultaneously on two pitches, ensuring nonstop football action throughout the day. The knockout format raised the stakes from the outset, producing several closely contested encounters. Many fixtures were decided by penalty shootouts, reflecting the quality and balance among the participating teams.
At the end of Day One, following the Round of 64 and Round of 32 fixtures, 16 male teams progressed to the next stage of the competition.

Action resumed early on Saturday, December 27, 2025, the final day of the tournament, as the remaining teams battled through the knockout rounds towards the quarterfinals and beyond in the men’s and women’s categories.
The women’s final featured a compelling contest between Mighty Warriors Ladies of Ilupeju and Webstar Ladies of Ikorodu. Both sides showcased impressive technical quality and discipline, but it was Webstar Ladies who emerged champions after a dominant display, earning well-deserved recognition as winners of the female category.
In the men’s category, the final lived up to expectations as Starlight FA of Kosofe Local Government faced Arise and Shine FA of Ikorodu in a tightly contested showdown. Regulation time ended goalless, with both teams cancelling each other out through solid defending and tactical discipline. The match was ultimately decided by a dramatic, sudden-death penalty.
Starlight FA’s star player, Anos, stepped up to score the decisive kick, sealing victory and crowning Starlight FA champions of the 2025 WakaPass Christmas Football Party Cup. Beyond the football, the event delivered a true Christmas carnival experience. The venue remained lively throughout the two days, with nonstop entertainment, music, and fan engagement.
The tournament also received strong backing from corporate partners and individuals. Indomie, one of Nigeria’s leading food brands, was on ground to cook and serve meals, while Milo added fun-filled engagement activities that further enriched the experience. A live DJ kept the atmosphere vibrant, with fans dancing and celebrating throughout the event.

The grand finale was graced by the Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Hajji Gafar, who witnessed both the women’s and men’s finals and officially crowned the champions. Trophies and medals, donated by Peckgrey Group, added prestige and credibility to the occasion. A total of 14 individual awards were also presented, courtesy of Tentrade, which provided colourful awards and football education support funds for players and coaches.
The two-day event showcased grassroots talent, unity, sportsmanship, and the growing strength of youth football development in Lagos State.
With the success recorded this year, anticipation is already building for an even bigger and better edition in December 2026.
