Baseball: West Africa Little League tournament kicks off in thrilling style

Day one of the 2025 West Africa Little League Tournament for Baseball Major divisional teams from Nigeria and Republic of Benin delivered thrilling action.

Alara Little League opened the day in emphatic fashion with a 9–0 runs shutout win over Divine Warriors in Game one. The side maintained their dominance later in the day, recording another convincing victory with an 8–1 win over Divine in Game four.

The Republic of Benin team, Cotonou Little League, produced a strong impression in their West Africa Tournament second coming. In Game two, Benin cruised to a 7–0 victory over Divine before producing another solid performance in Game three to defeat Alara 7–2, handing the Nigerian champions a rare loss in the regional phase.

Divine endured a challenging day, managing just one run across three games despite showing moments of resilience.

Coach of the Republic of Benin side, Fernando Lavenir Atannom, praised his players’ performance, stating that the kids clearly showed what they have been learning so far. He added that the players executed well on the field and played really well, expressing satisfaction with their development and overall display.

With momentum building and regional bragging rights at stake, the West Africa Tournament promises another exciting day of competitive youth baseball.
