The 2025–26 Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season kicks off today (Wednesday), with Bayelsa Queens set to begin their campaign to retain the title, Bold Sports reports.
The six-time winners alongside 18 other teams will be competing to become the new champions of Nigeria after the relegation of Castmog Ladies was confirmed as the club failed to meet essential licensing and registration requirements.
The 19 teams are divided into two groups with defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Adamawa Queens, Ekiti Queens, Heartland Queens, Ibom Angels, Naija Ratels, Pacesetter Queens, and Rivers Angels in Group A.
Group B includes Abia Angels, Ahudiyannem Queens, Dannaz Ladies, Delta Queens, Confluence Queens, FC Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Osun Babes, Remo Stars Ladies and Sunshine Queens.

The headline fixture on opening day sees Bayelsa Queens welcome 2023–24 champions Edo Queens to the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, in what promises to be an exciting South-South derby.
Elsewhere in Group A, Adamawa Queens host Pacesetter Queens in Makwada, Heartland Queens take on Ekiti Queens in Owerri, and Naija Ratels face Ibom Angels in Abuja. Rivers Angels have a bye due to Castmog Ladies’ relegation.
Group B also serves up a full slate of action. Nasarawa Amazons play Delta Queens in Lafia, Confluence Queens meet Abia Angels in Iyamho, while Sunshine Queens entertain FC Robo Queens in Akure. Ahudiyannem Queens clash with Remo Stars Ladies in Umuahia, and Dannaz Ladies square off with Osun Babes at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
