OFFICIAL: Super Falcons win CAF women’s national team of the year award

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been crowned the 2025 CAF Women’s National Team of the Year, capping off a phenomenal year defined by dominance, resilience and a record-extending continental triumph.

The award was presented on Wednesday, November 19, at the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony held at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat, Morocco.

The recognition comes on the back of a sensational year in which the Super Falcons clinched their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, further cementing their status as Africa’s most successful women’s national team.

Under the guidance of head coach Justin Madugu, Nigeria began the tournament in ruthless form, sweeping through the group stage with victories over Tunisia, Botswana and Algeria without conceding a single goal.

Their momentum continued in the knockout phase as they dismantled a highly-rated Zambian side 5–0 in the quarterfinals, before edging past rivals South Africa 2–1 in a tense semifinal clash to book a place in the final against hosts Morocco.

In a dramatic final, the Falcons showcased their trademark fighting spirit. Despite falling 2–0 behind within the opening 24 minutes, Nigeria produced a stunning second-half comeback, scoring three goals within 24 minutes to claim the title in remarkable fashion.

Their achievements has also seen individual recognition for key players. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade earned a nomination for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year, while standout shot-stopper Chiamaka Nnadozie was shortlisted for the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award.
