Galatasaray have confirmed that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen picked up an injury during Nigeria’s CAF World Cup playoff campaign in Morocco, Bold Sports reports.

Osimhen played a starring role in the playoff semifinal against Gabon, featuring for 116 minutes and scoring twice in extra time to inspire a 4–1 victory. But in the final against DR Congo, the striker lasted only 45 minutes before being replaced by Akor Adams, raising concerns over his fitness.

Nigeria eventually lost 4–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw in regular time, ending their hopes of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.

Following his return to Turkey, Galatasaray carried out tests and released a medical update on Wednesday confirming the extent of the injury.

“In the MRI examination performed today at our sponsor hospital Acıbadem on our football player Victor Osimhen, a moderate level of strain (strain and bleeding) was detected in his left posterior muscle and treatment has been started,” the club announced on their official website.

The recovery timeline remains unclear, but the Turkish giants will be eager to have their star striker back as they approach a crucial period of the season. Galatasaray currently sit top of the Turkish Super Lig and ninth in the UEFA Champions League standings, but the coming weeks will be important to ensure they remain competitive across all fronts.

Before the international break, Okan Buruk’s side suffered their first league defeat of the season against Kocaelispor. They will now turn their attention to Saturday’s clash with Gençlerbirliği as they try to return to winning ways.

Galatasaray will then shift focus to the Champions League, where they host Union St. Gilloise and chase a fourth consecutive win in the tournament. Osimhen, the competition’s leading scorer with six goals, could miss that fixture depending on how long he is out.
