Nigeria international Victor Osimhen is set to make his 20th UEFA Champions League appearance when he steps onto the pitch for Galatasaray in their Matchday 4 clash against Ajax Amsterdam at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

The Super Eagles striker made his Champions League debut in 2019 with French Ligue 1 side Lille, ironically against the same Ajax side. However, that night ended in disappointment as Lille suffered a 3–0 defeat, a result Osimhen will be eager to avenge when both teams meet again – six years and one month later.

Despite featuring in just 19 games in Europe’s elite competition, Osimhen has made a remarkable impact, recording 12 goals and one assist. He netted twice in five appearances for Lille, scored seven goals in 12 outings for Napoli, and has already found the back of the net three times in two games for Galatasaray this season.

In a recent interview, Osimhen discussed his ambition to elevate Galatasaray’s global reputation and establish the Turkish giants as a European powerhouse. His performances so far, most notably in their victory over Premier League champions Liverpool, have already signaled his intent.

“I spoke with the president when I arrived here, and we want to really make a statement in the Champions League,” Osimhen told UEFA.com. “We want to show that in Türkiye, we are the team the whole world will know this year because we actually did something amazing in Europe.”

Now 26, Osimhen will be looking to celebrate his milestone appearance not only with a goal but also with a crucial victory, as Galatasaray continue their push for a top-eight finish in the new league-format group stage – a spot that guarantees automatic qualification to the round of 16 and avoids the playoff phase.
