Nigeria’s Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubair, has been appointed as the new manager of Egyptian second division side Telecom Egypt SC, Bold Sports reports.
The 61-year-old tactician was unveiled at the club’s headquarters in Cairo after signing a two-year deal.
Zubair’s appointment follows his decent run with Nigeria’s U20, where he led the team to the 2024 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile. His work with the Flying Eagles earned praise for his tactical discipline and ability to develop young talent.

Before his national assignment, the Kwara-born coach made his mark in Nigerian club football. He guided Gombe United in 2021 and Elkanemi Warriors in 2024 to promotion to the top-flight, establishing himself as a promotion specialist.
In 2024, he led Elkanemi Warriors to victory in the President Federation Cup, Nigeria’s oldest football competition. It was his second FA Cup triumph, having first won it in 2017 as an assistant coach with Akwa United.
At international level, Zubair steered the Flying Eagles to win the 2024 WAFU-B U20 Championship and clinch bronze at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations, securing World Cup qualification.

He will be joined at his new club by Flying Eagles assistant coach Lukman Ijaiya, as both look to replicate their success in Egypt. Telecom SC are targeting promotion to the top-flight and believe Zubair’s experience can drive that ambition.
With strong financial backing and modern training facilities, Telecom SC rank among Egypt’s most ambitious clubs. For Zubair, this move marks a new challenge and a chance to extend his winning legacy beyond Nigeria’s borders.
