Super Falcons Head Coach, Justine Madugu, has stated that his team is expecting a tough encounter against the Amazons of Benin Republic when both sides clash in the return leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier on Tuesday in Abeokuta.

Nigeria head into the decisive fixture with a 2-0 advantage secured in the first leg played at the Stade Kégué in Lome on Friday, thanks to goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo. Despite the comfortable lead, Madugu insists the Falcons will take nothing for granted as they seek to confirm their place at the 14th WAFCON.

“We are looking forward to a tough game from the Beninoise, but we will be ready for that by putting up a good performance with the ultimate goal of qualification to the 2026 Women AFCON, where we hope to retain our title and further qualify for the World Cup in Brazil in 2027,” Madugu said ahead of the clash.

Madugu, who led the Super Falcons to a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, acknowledged the growing quality of women’s football across Africa and warned against complacency.

“The Amazons with about 10 professional players from Germany, Morocco, France and Equatorial Guinea gave a good account of themselves in the first leg, to underscore the fact that underrating any team now in Africa could be at your own peril. We are not taking anything for granted or leaving anything to chance. We will be ready to go all out for victory.”

The second-leg encounter is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta. The winner on aggregate will book a ticket to the 14th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026.
