Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi was on target for OGC Nice, but his strike was not enough to prevent a 2-1 home defeat to Italian giants AS Roma in their 2025/26 UEFA Europa League opener at the Allianz Riviera on Wednesday.

The Nigeria international, who replaced Kevin Carlos in the 62nd minute, converted from the penalty spot in the 77th minute to pull one back for Nice. However, it proved to be only a consolation for the hosts.

After a cagey first half, Roma broke the deadlock through centre-back Evan Ndicka in the 56th minute, before fellow defender Gianluca Mancini doubled the lead three minutes later.

Despite Nice’s late push for an equaliser, Roma’s defence held firm to secure all three points and start their campaign on a winning note.

Moffi, alongside teammate Jonathan Clauss, had been sanctioned by the club for arriving late to a team meeting on Monday, with both players dropped to the bench as part of the disciplinary action. They were eventually introduced in the second half.

The goal was Moffi’s third of the season in eight appearances. He has now scored twice in five Ligue 1 games, though he drew blanks in Nice’s two Champions League qualifying outings earlier in the campaign.
