Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka delivered a standout performance on Tuesday evening, providing his first assist of the season as Brentford secured a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth in their Carabao Cup second round clash at the Vitality Stadium, Bold Sports reports.

Making his first start of the campaign after substitute appearances against Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, Onyeka made the most of his opportunity with a dynamic, all-action display in midfield.

Despite Bournemouth controlling much of the early possession, Brentford struck first in the 34th minute through Fabio Carvalho, who scored his first goal this season to give the Bees a crucial lead.

The second goal came in the 65th minute, with Onyeka central to the move. The Nigerian won possession off Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, passed to Carvalho who returned the ball, and provided the decisive touch that allowed Igor Thiago to slot home Brentford’s second.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola introduced fresh legs in search of a comeback, but Brentford’s discipline and defensive solidity held firm. The Cherries’ night worsened late on when Julian Araujo was sent off, effectively ending their hopes.

Beyond his assist, Onyeka delivered an impressive showing, completing 74% of his passes, winning two tackles and making two clearances. He also recorded ten ball recoveries, won five ground duels, and four aerial duels, underlining his influence on both ends of the pitch.

The impressive victory sees Brentford progress to the next round of the Carabao Cup, while Bournemouth’s early exit adds to their ongoing struggles this season.
