Super Falcons forward Rinsola Babajide made her highly-anticipated debut for AS Roma as they secured a thrilling 4-2 victory over Ternana in their first group stage game of the Serie A Women’s Cup on Friday, Bold Sports reports.

Fresh from a historic WAFCON triumph, where she made her debut in the tournament, scored her first international goal, and lifted her maiden continental title, Babajide was named in the squad for Roma as they sought to make a winning start to their season.

The team wasted no time in asserting their dominance over their opponents as Alayah Pilgrim opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Alice Corelli doubled the visitor’s lead just four minutes after, giving Roma a comfortable advantage.

Ternana’s experienced striker Valeria Pirone scored in the 24th minute to give the home side some hope but Pilgrim netted her second goal of the match shortly after to quickly regain Roma’s two-goal advantage.

The second half was less of a goal fest as the visitors sought to gain some control over the match. However, in the 57th minute, they extended their lead as midfielder Annalena Rieke scored to make it 4-1.

Rinsola Babajide was substituted into the match in the 75th minute, replacing Corelli who had scored the second goal for Roma. Not long after, Alice Regazzoli struck to reduce the deficit and give Ternana supporters some consolation.

The victory marks a strong start to the season for Roma, but there’s little time to dwell on it as they will now prepare to face Aktobe on Wednesday, 27 August in their UEFA Champions League qualifying clash.
