Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is set to make his long-awaited debut for Besiktas in front of the home fans when they face Eyupspor in their Turkish Super Lig season opener on Sunday.

Besiktas’ original opening fixture against Kayserispor was postponed due to the tight schedule around their UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying games against Irish Premier Division side St Patrick’s Athletic.

Ndidi completed a move from English Championship side Leicester City earlier this month, signing a three-year deal with the option of a further year for €8m. The club officially unveiled him on August 7.

The Nigeria international was on the bench as a guest during Besiktas’ 3-2 playoff win over St Patrick’s, but, after participating fully in training all week, he is expected to feature in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s squad for the clash with Eyupspor.

Besiktas, who have strengthened heavily this summer with the arrivals of Ndidi, Tammy Abraham, Taylan Bulut, and others, will be aiming to mount a serious challenge for the Turkish league title, having last lifted the trophy in the 2020/21 season.

Ndid brings a wealth of experience to the club, spanning a decade of professional club football, including over eight seasons of English Premier League football with Leicester City.
