Nigeria’s Super Eagles B head coach, Eric Chelle, has underlined the importance of their upcoming clash with Sudan, describing it as a decisive fixture in their CHAN 2024 campaign.

The CHAN Eagles go into Tuesday’s match seeking to bounce back after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Senegal in their opening Group A fixture. The loss has placed added pressure on the team to deliver a victory and keep their qualification hopes alive.

“We are focused on our next game. This game against Sudan is a big game for us. We have the final training session today in order to be ready for tomorrow,” Chelle said in his pre-match press conference.

Chelle insisted his priority is victory and refused to be distracted by external factors: “I just want to win the game. The game will have a lot of intensity. I don’t think about the journalists or camera when the game is on. When I’m happy or unhappy, it’s just me doing my job.”

He also acknowledged the weight of expectation but maintained that the squad remains united and driven: “We are ambitious, and we just want to win tomorrow’s game. There is a lot of pressure, but we are together.”

“I don’t think about what happened before. I’m just focused on the game tomorrow. I think about a positive attitude, and work on our mistakes.”

On the tournament schedule, Chelle believes the week-long gap between matches offers his players adequate preparation time: “It’s good for us in terms of preparation, but we need to win. We have worked very hard in the past one week, and tomorrow, we will play the best game of our lives.”

On his side’s team news, Chelle confirmed a positive update on Taiwo Abdulrafiu while revealing a fresh injury concern: “Taiwo Abdulrafiu is okay. However, the reality is that Ani Ozoemena is injured, and we just had to bring Ebenezer in, and I trust him.”
