Kwara United will face Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, while debutants Abia Warriors have been handed a tough test against Mali’s Djoliba in the preliminary phase of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Abia Warriors secured their place in the tournament by finishing third in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), while Kwara United qualified after defeating Abakaliki FC in the President’s Cup final.
It will be a stern challenge for Kwara United, who finished 14th in last season’s NPFL, as they come up against 25-time Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko, who placed third in the GPL last season.

Abia Warriors, on the other hand, will face an experienced Djoliba side that narrowly missed out on the Malian Première Division title, finishing just four points behind champions Stade Malien.
The Nigerian club will make its first-ever appearance in continental football and hopes to defy the odds against a Djoliba side that reached the second qualifying round of the CAF Champions League in the 2022/23 season.
The preliminary round will be played over two legs on the weekends of September 19–21 and 26–28, 2025.
