Tinubu honours WAFCON-winning Super Falcons with ₦153m each, OON titles

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rewarded the Super Falcons with the naira equivalent of $100,000 (N153,550,000) each and national honours following their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title win in Morocco, Bold Sports reports.

The President announced this during the reception organised for the victorious team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.

Each player and official of the squad will also receive the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) award in recognition of their performance at WAFCON 2024, where Nigeria defeated hosts Morocco 3–2 in a thrilling final in Rabat.

Additionally, 11 team officials will be awarded $50,000 each while the Nigerian Governors’ Forum also gifted the Super Falcons a sum of ₦360 million in recognition of their triumph at the tournament. Each player will also receive a three-bedroom house.

Speaking during a presidential reception at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu praised the team for showing exceptional resilience and for making the country proud.

“It’s a joy to have you here victorious, looking well relaxed and accomplished. Today you return home as champions of Africa. We could not be prouder and it could not be more historic. You made us very very proud,” he said.

“Your victory represents more than the sports’ accomplishments. It is a triumph of courage, determination, discipline and consistency,” the President added.
