Reigning Nigeria Premier Football League champions Remo Stars will kick off their title defence by hosting Rivers United in Ikenne, as the 2025/26 season gets underway.
The official draw for the new season was held in Abuja on Monday, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting campaign.
Remo Stars, who claimed their first-ever NPFL title last season after several near-misses, will now aim to become the first team to successfully defend the title since Kano Pillars achieved a three-peat between 2012 and 2014.
Elsewhere on Matchday One, Abia Warriors—who finished third last season—will take on Kano Pillars in what is expected to be a thrilling encounter. The Pillars are under new management following the appointment of Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa as General Manager.

Among the newly promoted sides, FC Barau will mark their debut in the topflight with a challenging fixture at home against record champions Enyimba, while Wikki Tourists welcome Plateau United to Bauchi. Warri Wolves begin their campaign away to Katsina United, and Kun Khalifat will travel to Enugu to face Rangers.
Other fixtures include Kwara United hosting Ikorodu United in Ilorin, El-Kanemi Warriors squaring off against Bendel Insurance, Shooting Stars taking on Bayelsa United in Ibadan, and Niger Tornadoes welcoming Nasarawa United.
The 2025/26 NPFL season is scheduled to begin on August 22, pending any unforeseen changes.
