Nigeria’s Super Falcons continued their fine form with a 3-1 victory over Ghana’s Black Queens in a pre-WAFCON friendly played on Sunday evening at the Benslimane Stadium.

The encounter marked Nigeria’s final warm-up match ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following a 2-0 win against Cameroon at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta and a goalless draw with Portugal at the Estádio José Gomes.

The Super Falcons began the match with intensity and were duly rewarded with a two-goal cushion at the break. Chiwendu Ihezuo opened the scoring in the 34th minute, while Asisat Oshoala calmly converted a penalty shortly before half-time.

Just minutes after the restart, captain Rasheedat Ajibade added a third with a composed finish, effectively putting the contest beyond Ghana’s reach.

With the WAFCON tournament on the horizon, head coach Justin Madugu took the opportunity to make seven substitutions during the match. He introduced Ifeoma Onumonu, Sikiratu Isah, Esther Okoronkwo, Jenifer Echegini, Shukurat Oladipo, Francisca Ordega, and Udoka Unachukwu, replacing key starters including Oshoala, Ohale, Ihezuo, Ajibade, Ayinde, Ijamilusi, and Oluehi.

Ghana managed to pull one back in the 88th minute, but it proved too little too late, as Nigeria comfortably saw out the game to secure an impressive win over their West African rivals.

With their preparatory games concluded, the Super Falcons will now fully focus on the WAFCON campaign. They are set to open their tournament against Tunisia on July 6, before taking on Botswana and Algeria on July 10 and 13, respectively.

Nigeria will be highly motivated to clinch the WAFCON title in Morocco, as doing so would mark their historic 10th continental crown—an achievement strongly backed by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) in recent weeks.
