Super Eagles defender Ola Aina is set to sign a new contract with Nottingham Forest as the club prepares for a return to European football.
Aina, who joined Forest on a free transfer 2023 summer, has already triggered an automatic one-year extension, but the club are pushing to tie him down to a longer deal. According to The Telegraph, talks have been ongoing for months, and both parties are optimistic of reaching an agreement.
The 28-year-old has been one of Forest’s standout players this season, impressing with his versatility and consistency under Nuno Espírito Santo. He has played across both flanks and filled in various roles, helping the team push for a European spot.
Forest are planning for a busy summer transfer window and are targeting at least five new signings – two forwards, two wingers, a left-back, and a goalkeeper – to meet UEFA squad requirements.
However, the club are keen to retain the core of the team, with Aina among the key players they want to build around. Talks are also ongoing with Neco Williams and Callum Hudson-Odoi over improved deals, while Murillo and Chris Wood have already committed their futures.
Forest’s interest in signing a specialist left-back remains strong, with Rennes’ Adrien Truffert among their top targets, but Aina’s ability to operate in that role gives the coaching staff some flexibility.
Manager Nuno Espírito Santo said contract and recruitment talks will become clearer once the club’s European qualification status is confirmed.
“People in the club are dealing with next season, not us as coaching staff,” Nuno said. “This moment requires everything that you have for the responsibilities ahead of us.”
Since gaining promotion in 2022, Forest have spent more than £250 million on transfers. This summer, the focus is on players in the £20–30 million range, as they look to add quality and depth without disrupting the club’s financial stability.
Forest are expected to hold their pre-season training camp in Spain or Portugal, with a return to Murcia – where last season’s successful campaign began – on the table.
