Premier League legend Alan Shearer has included Super Eagles center back Calvin Bassey in his Matchweek 31 Premier League team of the week following the defender’s impressive performance against league leaders Liverpool.
Bassey was one of the standout players for Fulham in their 3-2 win over Liverpool at Craven Cottage, ending the Reds’ 26-game unbeaten run in the Premier league and inflicting on them their first away league loss since April 2024.
The Nigerian defender showcased composure on the ball and resilience to win the ball back, completing 90% of his passes while recording three tackles, five clearances, three headed clearances, and eight recoveries. He also won five ground duels and one aerial duel.
Bassey’s outstanding performance earned him a spot in the back-three of Alan Shearer’s team of the week alongside his teammate Antonee Robinson and Tino Livramento (Newcastle) with Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace) in goal.
