Southampton FC, home to Nigerian internationals Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo, have become the first team to be relegated from the Premier League this season—with an unprecedented seven games left to play.

The Saints have struggled with form and consistency throughout the campaign, collecting just 10 points from 31 matches. Their fate was sealed following a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, confirming their drop to the Championship.

Southampton have been rooted to the bottom of the table since the start of the season, enduring a dismal run that includes 25 losses, just two wins, and four draws. They now hold the unwanted record of being the first club in Premier League history to be relegated with as many as seven matches still to go.

Joe Aribo, who was part of the team that gained promotion back to the top flight, is expected to remain with the club, with one year left on his current deal. However, Paul Onuachu’s future remains uncertain, with speculation rife about whether the striker will stay on in the Championship.

Meanwhile, another Super Eagles star, Wilfred Ndidi, could also face relegation with Leicester City. Just one season after returning to the Premier League, the Foxes sit 19th on the table with only 17 points from 37 games, leaving their top-flight status hanging by a thread.
