U-17 AFCON: Nigeria to play South Africa, Morocco, Zambia

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets will face South Africa, Morocco and Zambia in Group B of the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria later this year following Wednesday’s draw held at the Cercle National de l’Armée in Algiers.

The tournament which is billed to take place from April 29 to May 19 will see two-time champions Nigeria play their games at the Chahid Hamlaoui Stadium in Constantine. 

Teams in Group A will play at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers while countries in Group C will slug it out at the May 19, 1956 Stadium in Annaba.

Hosts Algeria were drawn to play Senegal, one of the top young football playing  nations on the continent. They’ll also face Congo and debutants Somalia. In Group C, Two two-time winners Cameroon and Mali will face off in a tricky group which also include former champions Burkina Faso and debutants South Sudan.

The draw was conducted by CAF Director of Competitions Khaed Nasser. He was assisted in the draw by African football legends Ibrahim Bekakchi of Algeria and DR Congo’s Herita Ilunga.

All four top-placed teams at the tournament will qualify to fly Africa’s flag at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru later this year.
