Shooting Stars’ were unable to end their winless streak in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL), as they settled for a 1-1 draw against Enyimba at the Enyimba International Stadium on Wednesday, extending their winless run to four games.

“The Oluyole Warriors” came into the match on a dismal form, having secured only one win in their last five matches, leaving them ten points behind league leaders Remo Stars. Enyimba, meanwhile, were eager to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Katsina United in their previous game.

Motivated to secure a win, Shooting Stars made a strong start, scoring in the 16th minute through Sodiq Ibrahim’s solo effort, which beat Ani Ozoemena. The visitors nearly doubled their lead shortly after, but a missed one-on-one opportunity kept the game open.

Enyimba capitalized on the missed chance, equalizing in the 42nd minute after two early substitutions. Ekene Awaziem scored from the edge of the box, placing the shot beyond the Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper to level the scoreline going into halftime.

Gbenga Ogunbote also made changes, aiming to inspire his team to end their winless streak. However, neither side could convert their chances, ultimately settling for a draw.

The result moves Shooting Stars up to 42 points, nine points behind league leaders Remo Stars. On the other hand, Enyimba remain in 11th place with 35 points from 26 games, as their top-four hopes continue to dwindle.

Shooting Stars will host Rivers United at the Lekan Salami Stadium in their next game, desperate for a win, while Enyimba will travel to face Niger Tornadoes, hoping to bounce back from a string of disappointing results that has yielded only one win in their last five games.
