The Super Eagles have finally returned to Nigeria after their harrowing experience of being stranded at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya for over 15 hours.

The team landed in Kano on Monday evening, where their passports were stamped by immigration authorities, before heading to Abuja.

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong posted about the team’s arrival on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He posted, “BACK HOME 🇳🇬 SAFE & SOUND.

“Proud of this team, NAIJA SPIRIT can’t be broken.

“Throw at us what you want, it’s in our blood to overcome. Ive seen a lot in my 10 years with this group, but nothing like this, an experience that has brought us even closer TOGETHER.”

The national team had traveled to Libya for their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, but were caught in a logistical nightmare that left them stranded without proper communication or support from Libyan authorities.

Captain William Troost-Ekong had kept fans updated through social media during the ordeal, highlighting the frustrating delays. He revealed that the plane had been grounded at the Libyan airport when they tried to return to Nigeria, despite having access to fuel all along.

In a post before their departure, he said, “Apparently our plane is being fueled as we speak and we should be leaving to Nigeria shortly. Thanks for everyone’s support!”

The return of the Super Eagles brings an end to a tense and frustrating chapter for the team, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) promising an investigation into the incident. CAF had earlier stated that it views the treatment of the Nigerian team “in a very serious light” and will take appropriate action against those responsible.
