Nigerian quarter-miler Samson Nathaniel delivered a strong performance at the Znamensky Brothers Memorial in Russia, clocking a Season’s Best (SB) of 45.55s to finish second in the men’s 400m, Bold Sports reports.

He trailed behind Russia’s Alexander Masyutenko, who won the race in 45.39s, with both athletes battling through pouring rain to deliver impressive times.

In the women’s 100m hurdles, Faith Osamuyi placed 5th with a time of 13.36s (-0.5 m/s wind), while in the men’s 110m hurdles, Wisdom Great Musa came in 7th with a time of 14.12s.

Meanwhile, Ronke Akanbi stole the spotlight in the women’s 3000m steeplechase by setting a new Nigerian national record of 10:17.01, finishing 5th in the race. Her performance shaved at least five seconds off her previous personal best, marking a major career milestone.

Akanbi has been in stellar form throughout the 2024–2025 season, having narrowly missed breaking the national 1500m record during the last National Sports Festival.

This performance reaffirms Nathaniel’s status as Nigeria’s top male 400m runner.
