Nigerian Boxer Olanrewaju dies after collapsing during match in Ghana

Former National and one-time West African light-heavyweight champion, Segun Success Olanrewaju has tragically died after collapsing during a boxing match in Ghana on Saturday.

Olanrewaju lost consciousness while facing Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at the Ghana Professional Boxing League’s Fight Night 15, held at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Accra.

A viral video circulating on social media captured the moment Olanrewaju lost control and slumped against the ropes following an exchange of blows with his opponent.

Despite attempts to revive him, the 40-year-old’s injuries proved fatal, bringing a devastating end to his professional boxing career.

According to reports, Olanrewanju was ahead on points before the fatal incident occurred. The Nigerian boxer had a notable career, competing in 24 professional fights, securing 13 wins, eight losses, and three draws.

The boxing community is in mourning following Olanrewaju’s passing, as tributes pour in from colleagues and fans across Nigeria and West Africa, recognizing his significant impact and legacy in the sport.
