Dessers wins Feyenoord player, goal of the month awards

Cyriel Dessers garnered over 65% of votes to emerge Feyernoord’s Player of The Month for November.

The Nigeria international who has been in superb form for the Dutch Eredivisie side since completing his season-long loan from Belgian club Genk also bagged the goal of the month award.

With Dessers claiming over 65% of the votes, first runners-up Gernot Trauner had 15%, while Fredrik Aursnes gathered 14% and Justin Bijlow was fourth with 5% of the votes.

The awards were handed to the striker on his 27th birthday today.

In November, Dessers scored three goals in two Conference League games and the winner in a 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar earlier in the month.

Dessers’ has scored seven goals in 16 appearances for Feyenoord in all competitions with four of them coming in 11 league games.

Accepting the award, the Nigeria international who has been referred to as a super-sub by the fans said he is delighted to have helped the team the way he has by scoring late important goals.

”I am proud of that”, Dessers begins in conversation with Feyenoord TV .

“I’m glad the fans thought of me. It was just a really fantastic month. Of course I was able to score some decisive goals. We had those evenings in Berlin and Prague.

“European away games always give something extra. If I can be important in that, then it feels extra fun.”

Dessers becomes the second Nigeria player to win his club’s goal and player of the month awards for November after Emmanuel Dennis also claimed the awards for English Premier League side Watford on Saturday.
