The highly anticipated heavyweight clash between Nigeria’s Efe Ajagba and DR Congo’s Martin Bakole, originally set for May in New York, will now take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on May 3rd.
The bout has been stripped of its IBF heavyweight eliminator status after Bakole suffered a knockout loss to Joseph Parker. Bakole had stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Daniel Dubois with less than 48 hours’ notice. Now, the fight will feature as an undercard event in the Canelo vs. William Scull bout.
Victory for Ajagba (20-1, 14 KOs) will boost his rankings and move him closer to a title shot, while a win for Bakole will help rebuild his reputation after his recent defeat.

This fight marks Ajagba’s first professional bout outside the United States, whereas Bakole will be competing in Saudi Arabia for the second time. Throughout his career, Bakole has fought in multiple countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United States, France, Poland, the UAE, England, Scotland, Belgium, and South Africa.
With the fight now on a grand stage in Riyadh, both boxers have a chance to impress a global audience and stake their claim in the highly competitive heavyweight division. The matchup promises an exciting showdown, as Ajagba’s power and precision will be tested against Bakole’s resilience and experience.
