Benin’s coach, Gernot Rohr, is confident ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Nigeria. The Franco-German tactician insists his team, the Cheetahs, are not intimidated by the Super Eagles and will be fighting for a victory.

Rohr, who coached Nigeria from 2016 to 2021 and took them to the 2018 World Cup, aims to repeat that feat with Benin, guiding them to their first-ever World Cup appearance.

Despite Nigeria’s winless run in the qualifiers (against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa), Rohr acknowledges Nigeria’s strength. However, he emphasizes that Benin, despite being underdogs, will be pushing for all three points in the match.

“Nigeria is a great team. We are underdogs but we will play tomorrow to win,” Rohr told the press ahead of their all-important clash with the Super Eagles.

The game will be played at the Stade Felix Houphouet Boigny in Abidjan. Nigeria will be hoping to get their 2026 World Cup ambition alive with a win over the Beninois.
