Kano Pillars and Sporting Lagos shared the points after a 1-1 draw in their Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 7 clash on Saturday, Bold Sports reports.

The game took place at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. Both teams had chances during an open contest, but neither side could find a winning goal after the break.

Ugwu gives Sporting Lagos the lead

Sporting Lagos entered the game after a 0-0 draw with Ikorodu City. Before that result, the Lagos club had beaten Enyimba 3-2 away from home. Kano Pillars, meanwhile, had also drawn 0-0 with Enyimba in their previous league fixture.

Kano Pillars started brightly in front of their home supporters.

Rabiu Ali tested Sporting Lagos goalkeeper Clinton Lawani with a free kick in the 17th minute. Lawani made the save.

The goalkeeper was called into action again shortly afterwards. Sporting Lagos survived the early pressure as Pillars continued to search for an opening.

However, the visitors struck first in added time.

Valentine Ugwu reacted quickest to a rebound inside the box. He finished the move in the 45th minute to put Sporting Lagos ahead before half-time.

Pillars respond after the break

Kano Pillars wasted little time in finding an equaliser.

Abdullahi Musa restored parity in the 48th minute. The midfielder finished a move created by veteran Rabiu Ali.

The goal brought the home side back into the contest.

Sporting Lagos then had an opportunity to regain the lead through Aliyu Baba. However, he could not convert from a difficult position.

At the other end, Rabiu Ali tried again to beat Lawani from a free kick. The Sporting Lagos goalkeeper kept out the attempt.

Both sides continued to push for a second goal. Neither, however, could produce the decisive finish.

Both teams take a point

The final whistle confirmed a 1-1 draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

The result extended Kano Pillars’ unbeaten start to the league season. Sporting Lagos, meanwhile, recorded their second consecutive draw after their goalless meeting with Ikorodu City.

Kano Pillars will now turn their attention to their next league fixture against Shooting Stars. Sporting Lagos are scheduled to host Bendel Insurance in their next NPFL outing.
